No. No no no no no!!!

This really hurts my feelings.

Husbands are not meant to be shopped for. And furthermore, husband shopping techniques are not meant to be written about. I saw this woman promoting her book on The Today Show and more than anything it made me mad. Can she also show me how to use fiance-focused coupons to get the most bang for my buck?

Finding a husband is not an art, a science, or an exercise in strategic thinking. It's not something that warrants a guidebook (and especially not a 'consumer' guide, at that!). Perhaps I'm a hopeless romantic, but the fact that this author might actually be successful with this book just left me feeling hopeless.

Lighting a fire

So for those that are unaware, I am a bit of a pyromaniac. Not in the 'she might need to be institutionalized' kind of way, but moreso in the vein that I am absolutely fascinated with fire to the point that I could sit in front of a fire and be entertained for hours.

It's no secret that I'm also passionate about words, and I have a new one. It's not a new word, but it came out of my mouth last night when I was discussing my tendencies and I quite enjoyed it. Pyromaniacal. It's an adjective that is an obvious outgrowth of the noun.

If madness breeds intelligence, who cares if I become a bit euphoric in the face of a raging flame? I'd rather be the catalyst for a chemical change than a wet blanket, after all.

A little bit of genius

"I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious." -Albert Einstein

Whoever said genius and psychosis are mutually exclusive was severely mistaken. Au contraire!

Last night (on the recommendation of my awesome roommate) I watched (most of) The Cruise, a documentary about a bus tour guide in New York City. It's over a decade old but the images and feelings evoked are timeless... I highly recommend it to any lover of New York or simply poetry, for that matter.

Not only did it serve to reinvigorate my romance with this city, but it also reaffirmed my love affair with language. And, above all, it made me once again appreciate madness as a complement (and a perhaps necessary one, at that) to brilliance.

Back in the Geek Saddle

After a year-long hiatus (in which, I must admit, I accomplished who knows what, other than moving to Brooklyn and cutting bangs) I have decided to return to the blogosphere.

This morning my boss' boss asked me the difference between affect and effect. Of course, I remembered the blog post I penned on that very subject almost two years ago, realized that what my life has been lacking lately is my daily dose of grammatical correctness, and, alas, here I am.
